    The Phlebotomy non-credit certificate program is available only at Mercy College's Toledo campus and offers content pertaining to routine venipuncture and dermal techniques; non-blood collection procedures; proper specimen handling; safety and infection control; venipuncture equipment; complications; medical ethics; confidentiality; and effective communication. Students will also learn about the function of a full-service laboratory. The clinical experience is scheduled as if it were a full-time job (day shift, Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day, no evenings or weekend hours).

  • ArticleMercy College Adjunct Faculty Member Recognized for Volunteerism


    Beth Colon, COT was recognized as the 2015 recipient of the Virginia S. Boyce Humanitarian Award by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) Education and Research Foundation. The Virginia S. Boyce Humanitarian Award was established in 2000 in honor of Virginia Boyce, CEO of Prevent Blindness from 1972 to 1982, who gave eighteen combined years of devoted volunteer service to JCAHPO and the Foundation. Beth was selected as the 2015 Boyce Award recipient in recognition of her many years of volunteerism. She has worked hard to support eye care technicians locally and also served with enthusiasm in Latin America. She has been a long time member of the Association of Technical Personnel in Ophthalmology and served in leadership roles in Cleveland Ophthalmic Personnel Society. Beth has participated in eight mission trips to El Salvador to provide eye care to villagers in remote areas. She also spent a month in Guatemala working with a local orphanage. We are proud to call Beth a member of the Mercy College of Ohio family.

    Jonathan Lehman, a senior BSN student at Mercy College of Ohio, was instantly fascinated when he first learned of 3D printing (also known as rapid prototyping). While it has been around since the 1980s, 3D printing was mostly used by large businesses utilizing commercial 3D printers that can cost more than $100,000. Only recently did 3D printers become available in the form of desktop printers. Jonathan had seen little trinkets made by desktop 3D printers but when he saw a functional mechanical hand prosthetic made almost entirely from a 3D printer, he became captivated.
