Mercy College’s Quality Improvement (QI) course (IMG 410) is designed for imaging sciences field professionals that want to advance their career in a flexible, online environment. The QI course seeks to enhance to the skillset of field professionals to assist with the changing demands in healthcare. Quality metrics, practice quality improvement, and value-based care are growing in importance in the imaging sector and this course will help you to readily contribute to these initiatives.

  • 7 week fully online course
  • Online course is offered August – October (Fall) and January – March (Spring) of each year.
  • The intense 7-week course experience is intended to expose you to quality improvement practices, as they apply to the imaging sciences.
  • Participants are encouraged to develop practice improvement projects that contribute to clinically-relevant workplace practice change.
  • Complete one learning module each week throughout the 7-week course

Course Description

This course will expose medical imaging professionals to a continuous quality improvement culture. Topics will include medical imaging improvement targets, performance indicators, and process improvement models and tools. The review, assessment, and development of quality improvement resources will be emphasized to empower students to contribute to workplace interventions.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Define problems in the imaging sciences
  2. Discuss available quality improvement resources
  3. Compare quality improvement models
  4. Create a quality improvement tool specific to identified problems
  5. Recommend a quality improvement strategy

All below module will be addressed through the lens of medical imaging.

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Medical Imaging Quality Improvement (QI)
  • Module 2 – Project Management
  • Module 3 – Identifying Problems & User Involvement
  • Module 4 – Mapping the Process
  • Module 5 – Improvement Measurement, Demand, and Capacity
  • Module 6 – Practice Quality Improvement Immersion
  • Module 7 – Human Dimensions of Change

Projects:
- Root-cause Analysis Development
- Flowchart Creation
- Quality Metrics and Dashboard Development
- A3 Format Quality Improvement Process

Mercy College is Regionally Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The ARRT has designated this three credit hour College course as being equivalent to 48 CEs.

Applicants must be currently registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

The cost of the seven-week educational experience is approximately $1800. The approximate price includes tuition, application fee, and credit hour fees. The price does not include the cost of the course textbook. Contact your employer about the potential for financial assistance or tuition reimbursement. Mercy College is a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

To register for this course you will need to apply to the college as special student status. Apply using the online application and simply select "Special Student Status" from the "Program of Study" menu. Students who enroll in the course in this capacity are not offered Federal financial aid, scholarships, or grants.
