Mercy College of Ohio President to leave organization, interim president named
Mercy College of Ohio and Mercy Health announced that Susan Wajert, PhD, president of Mercy College, will leave the organization, effective March 8. Dr. Wajert announced her retirement in the spring of 2023 and is leaving a few months earlier than planned to accept a post-retirement professional opportunity.
During Dr. Wajert’s nearly 10-year tenure, Mercy College added graduate degrees, including the Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Health Administration, and, most recently, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program. Mercy College has also received several federal and state grants, including Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grants under her leadership. The Mercy College campus has undergone numerous improvements under her leadership, including the addition of the Dr. Daniel J. Hanson Learning Commons, Physician Assistant Suite, Simulation Center, and the expansion of nursing skills and radiologic technology labs with new equipment.
Manuel Martinez, Ph.D., will serve as interim president while the search for a new president is completed. He has served in his role as vice president of Academic Affairs/Dean of Faculty at Mercy College since December 2022. Before coming to Mercy College, Dr. Martinez was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean for Undergraduate Studies at Ohio Dominican University.
