Important Message about Federal Financial Aid

Kathryn Bubrig

Due to the 6-month delay by the Department of Education with processing 2024-25 FAFSA applications, there is a delay in 2024-25 award offers availability. Beginning the week of April 15th, users and contributors should begin receiving notification from Federal Student Aid (FSA) of their availability to make necessary corrections to their FAFSA (such as missing signatures).

How does this impact students?

Please be patient with the Mercy College financial aid team, as we navigate the complexity of all the changes the DOE has implemented. This may include a delay in your federal aid offer as well as federal aid disbursements. Please plan accordingly if you depend on excess financial aid for indirect costs such as housing, food, and transportation. The financial aid team would like to remind students experiencing an extreme financial hardship the option to apply for a student emergency grant available through the office of Student Affairs. For information about the emergency grant and to access the application, please visit https://mercycollege.edu/my-mercy/mercy-college-student-emergency-fund.

Students may also consider applying for a summer private loan if you are unable to depend on the delays in federal aid. More information about private student loans can be found here: https://mercycollege.edu/admissions/financial-aid/private-loans.
