The new 2016-2017 FAFSA is here! To begin your application, click Start A New FAFSA.  The 2016-2017 IRS Data Retrieval Tool will be available on Feb. 7, 2016. If you have questions about the FSA ID, you can find the answers to frequently asked questions here. If you need assistance logging in with your FSA ID, contact Student Aid at 1-800-557-7394. The Federal Student Aid PIN was replaced with the FSA ID on May 10, 2015. The new FSA ID consists of a user-created username and password to electronically access personal information on Federal Student Aid Web sites, including FAFSA on the Web. You can use your FSA ID immediately to sign your FAFSA, but must wait for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to verify your information before you can use the FSA ID to create a renewal FAFSA, make corrections to your FAFSA, or view your SAR.

Author:  Jeff Baker, Director, Policy Liaison and Implementation, Federal Student Aid Subject: IRS Warning of a "Federal Student Tax" Scam On May 27, 2016 the IRS released a statement warning of a scam involving a bogus “Federal Student Tax”. As provided in their statement, the scam is currently presented as “phone calls from IRS impersonators demanding payment for a non-existent tax, the ‘Federal Student Tax.’” The IRS’ statement includes further explanation of what the scam includes, how students and taxpayers can protect their information, and how the IRS is responding to the issue. Institutions may want to make their students aware of this scam and the potential harm it may cause. ArticleMercy College Enrollment Increases to New Record

Mercy College of Ohio President, Susan C. Wajert, PhD, announced fall 2016 enrollment has increased at Mercy College with 1355 students enrolled. This is an overall increase of 9% from fall 2015 and a record enrollment for Mercy College. The Toledo campus enrollment increased by 8% with 1155 students, while the Youngstown enrollment increased 13% with 200 students.

Mercy College of Ohio strongly believes it is important that all students maintain health care coverage to help ensure academic success and well-being. In addition, to be in compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all individuals are required by law to have health insurance coverage. To assist with this goal, Mercy College of Ohio is again offering our Student Health Coverage Plan provided by United Health Care (UHC). We believe this plan provides excellent levels of health coverage with low out-of-pocket costs when compared to other plans offered commercially or through the ACA website.

Please note that all students who are enrolled in 6 or more credits will be automatically enrolled in the Mercy College Health Insurance plan. This annual coverage is an excellent and affordable plan. More information is available in the Business Office. If you already have health insurance and wish to waive, please complete the online Health Insurance Waiver form. This waiver is available on your Empower account. The link is directly below your billing detail summary. Please click all three “Update buttons” on the left-hand side of the form to update all information, type your name to decline coverage, and submit. The charges will be removed from your bill within 5 business days. Please contact the Business Office with any questions about your bill or your health insurance.

Earlier this fall the U.S. Department of Education released the official Fiscal Year 2014 three-year student loan default rates. This rate reflects borrowers from Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2016 who defaulted on their student loans. Mercy College is proud of the low student loan default rate.
