On December 8, students from Mercy College of Ohio’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program participated in a Telehealth Simulation on campus (image below). Telehealth is the distribution of health-related services and information via electronic information and telecommunication technologies. It allows long-distance patient and clinician contact, care, advice, reminders, education, intervention, monitoring, and remote admissions.

The focus of this simulation was on the importance of telehealth technology in meeting healthcare needs in response to a global pandemic. Students applied knowledge and skills learned throughout the nursing program with the use of telehealth equipment. They delivered patient-centered care by collaborating with other healthcare professionals using telehealth technology. Additionally, they identified outside influences, such as legal, economic, and ethical, that affect healthcare delivery using a telehealth platform.
