Mercy College's Pre-Physical Therapy (Pre-PT) track is an integral part of the Bachelor of Science in Biology program. This track prepares Pre-PT students with a robust educational foundation needed for graduate school and future careers in physical therapy. Physical therapists (PTs) are experts in movement who enhance quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care, and educational guidance. PTs empower patients to prevent or manage their conditions, fostering long-term health benefits.
Pathways to a Career in Physical Therapy
Students aiming to pursue a career in physical therapy will advance to graduate school after completing their Bachelor of Science in Biology degree with the Pre-PT track. In graduate school, students typically engage in a Doctor of Physical Therapy or Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) program. This demanding program spans three years and includes nine semesters of intensive study.
The Pre-Physical Therapy program at Mercy College is specifically tailored to provide the coursework necessary for preparation for PT school. Prospective PT students are advised to maintain a science and overall GPA of between 3.2 and 3.5 to stand out in their graduate school applications.
