Required Steps Prior to Attending SOAR

Please read and complete the three steps required of all students.

Review your acceptance letter to see if the ACCUPLACER assessment is required of you. ACCUPLACER testing must be completed at least 48 hours before your appointment with your academic advisor. To directly schedule your assessment, please contact:

Yes. The ACCUPLACER assessment (if required) and academic advising must be completed at least 48 hours before SOAR. A student’s acceptance letter will indicate if the ACCUPLACER assessment is required. Students who do not complete the required ACCUPLACER assessment prior to attending SOAR will not be able to register for math classes.

Students should start the financial aid process as soon as taxes are completed. The FASFA should be completed at least two weeks prior to attending SOAR. This will allow the Financial Aid Office to assist with final steps of the process.

SOAR will not run longer than the scheduled time of four and a half hours.

Students may have their parent(s), or others in their support network, attend the SOAR session with them.

Yes. All land-based students must attend a SOAR session before beginning classes at Mercy College.

The SOAR program provides important information that contributes to a successful start to a student’s Mercy College experience. Students will meet with representatives from Financial Aid, the Library, the Student Success Center, Distance Education, and Student Affairs. Students will also receive their Mercy College ID and register for classes. Attending SOAR provides an opportunity to meet fellow new Mercy College students, hear about College policies and procedures, and have many of your questions answered.

Students will leave SOAR with a schedule and will be ready to start classes.

A student’s academic advisor and representatives from Student Records will be available to address questions and concerns, during SOAR. Please see Required Steps Prior to Attending SOAR (above) for information regarding scheduling academic advising.

Students beginning clinicals will receive an additional mailing from their department regarding program orientation, uniforms, health records and additional assessments.

Students currently enrolled in classes at another college are reminded to have official transcripts sent directly to Mercy College when final grades are posted.
