Exciting HOSA Conference
Mercy College of Ohio participated in the HOSA (Future Health Professionals) conference from April 10 to 12. Thousands of Ohio students attended the conference held at the Glass City Center in downtown Toledo.
HOSA is a global, student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services as well as several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, middle school, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions.
Mercy College staff including Lori Edgeworth, Andrea Schuster, and Jessica Coombs participated and were recognized as part of the Executive Planning Committee for HOSA. The College provided several faculty and staff volunteers as judges, 60 swag bags to TPS middle school students, and sponsored a booth with an admissions table manned throughout the conference by Jordan Shaffer and Kendrick Ilmer. Gifts were created to hand out to students who have already been accepted, and our Admission Officers met with several students interested in Mercy College as an option after high school graduation. We shared space with Mercy Health Talent Acquisition who were speaking with students regarding job/career opportunities, too.
Special thanks to all who volunteered for HOSA including our judges: Karla Carver, Jamie Tooman, Kimberly Destazio, Gail Lis, Chris Gibbons, and Cassandra Schultz! HOSA will host their State Conference in Toledo again in 2025, April 9 and 10, 2025 at the Glass City Center so if you were unable to participate this year, you have another chance next year!
