Youngstown Nursing Students - Living Our Mission
submitted by Annette Hinrichs
This summer, students were assigned in their mental health clinical groups a topic related to physical & mental health needs of the homeless. Students worked as a team to design a mini health station. They made posters, games, hand-outs, & obtained donations from the community that went with their topic. For example, fresh fruit smoothies for healthy eating. The day of the project, students interacted with clients during their meal service, creating an educational party for the 100 clients (including 30 children). Students obtained many needed donations of fresh food, clothing, toys, games, and books for clients. After the project day, students were so inspired that many obtained donations, raffled a basket, and sold T-shirts. The total funds raised were $1040! These funds were donated towards the much needed new building for the Mission. See event image - Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.
