Spotlight on Well-being: Social Wellness

Submitted by Suzanne Hall

The Staff Council Wellness Committee will be highlighting different aspects of well-being every month throughout the school year. In November, we are focusing on social wellness.

Social wellness is the aspect of wellbeing related our connection with others, having meaningful relationships and practicing good communication and boundaries. Strong social connection helps us to live longer, more fulfilled lives and can help reduce risk of diseases such as heart disease, strokes, dementia, depression and anxiety.

Assess your Social Well-being by considering how true these are for you:

  • I maintain a network of supportive friends, family and social contacts.
  • I have at least one meaningful relationship in my life.
  • I value diversity and treat others with respect.
  • I am able to say “no” or set boundaries when needed and not feel guilty.
  • I have someone I can talk to about my feelings and struggles.
  • I give and take equally in my relationships.
  • I plan time with my family and friends.
  • I participate in social activities and enjoy being with people who are different from me.

Halloween Door Decoration Contest Results

Submitted by James Bier

2024

The officers of Faculty Assembly and Staff Council would like to thank all those who participated in the 2024 Halloween Door Decorating Contest. Twenty-six doors were entered into the competition The judges were awed by the tremendous creativity in doors’ designs. Emily Scheuer won the Most Creative Award for “Have a SPEC-tacular Halloween,” and Terri O’Donnell won for the Spookiest. Each received a $25 gift certificate for their accomplishments. The library put together a magnificent scenario involving the silhouette of a dead body at the entrance and clues throughout the library. Sadly, most of the display was not on the door so the scenario could not win the competition. Between those that entered the door competition and the others that contributed without entering, over $300 was donated to the Student Emergency Fund. Again, thank you to all participants.
