Faculty & Staff Newsletter

January 6, 2020

Greetings from Dr. Wajert

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday season. For those who had sadness or illness, you were in our thoughts and prayers.

As we move forward into the new year and decade, Mercy College of Ohio faculty, staff, and students are prepared for both the opportunities and challenges that we may experience. We have journeyed in new directions over the past ten years while keeping the Mercy Sisters and our values in mind, and our journey will continue as we prepare for the future!

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) will be on campus January 15-17, 2020 to review the proposed Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Dawn LaBarbera along with her colleagues and the College community are preparing for the visit. We are working very closely with ODHE and the Higher Learning Commission in order to host the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc, (ARC-PA) in June 2020.

Jamie Tooman, and the BSN nursing faculty have been working closely with their consultant to assess and implement plans for the BSN curriculum. We also continue to work on refining the partnerships with BGSU and Tiffin University as changes occur in the BSN program.

Our initial draft report from HLC was received for correction of fact, and it was returned to HLC with any corrections that needed to be made. We expect to hear early spring as to the outcome of our November site visit.

The construction of the Dr. Daniel J. Hanson Learning Commons on Jefferson 6th floor continues. The plan is to have it fully operational for summer 2020. Renovations will also be in progress on the 6th floor Madison to prepare for the Physician Assistant program.

We look forward to 2020 and the new decade ahead for Mercy College of Ohio.

Justice Week 2020 - January 20-24

Submitted by Annie Devine

"If you want peace, work for justice."

Inspired by these words of Pope Paul VI and by our Mercy Values, we invite you to join us for our first annual Justice Week from January 20-24. This opportunity to explore a variety of justice issues helps to deepen our understanding and conversations around healthcare and global concerns. This year, we will focus on the particular justice issue of Human Trafficking and it's impact on our community. Please see the flyer for programs and activities that will be offered throughout the week.
