Enrollment Management News

With the start of the fall semester two weeks away, it is crunch time as we work to get students admitted and enrolled for the semester. Right now, we are trending below last year’s numbers by approximately 120 students (new and continuing). There are SOAR sessions this week and next, and online students can register at any time. Applications continue to be accepted and those who have applied are being contacted to complete their files. Numbers will be changing continuously over the next two weeks.

I want to thank everyone for their part in getting students enrolled. It will take all of us these next two weeks and it is all hands-on deck! Often, I hear that students who are last minute admits and those who register late are not always successful and tend to drop out. This is not true! We have done an analysis several times of students who have dropped from the semester and when they registered. There is not a direct correlation to this. Last minute students can be highly successful. What contributes more to whether or not a student remains enrolled is the experience that they have.

Gainful Employment A month ago, I shared the new regulations on Gainful Employment that required that every prospective certificate student receive information on Gainful Employment prior to registering for classes and paying their bill. In addition to notifying the prospective student directly, it had to be documented when the information was provided. We have received notification from the Department of Education that as of July 1, 2020, providing Gainful Employment information to prospective students will no longer be required and that we could decide as an institution to “early implement this regulation." Mercy College, like most institutions, chose the early implementation and have removed the Gainful Employment information from the website.

California Some of you may be aware that the State of California is the only state that is not a participant in SARA – State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements– which regulates Distance Education programs. Mercy College is a SARA member and offers programs to California residents. The State of California has agreed to comply with the SARA regulations. At this time, we are permitted to offer our online programs in California and those students enrolled from California are eligible to receive Financial Aid. We will continue to monitor this and will keep you updated on any new information.

Style Guide The Office of Communication has developed a Style guide for the college that you may access here. The Style Guide provides information on the Mercy College logo, colors and fonts. You MUST work with the Director of Marketing and Communication to develop public facing and promotional materials.

I hope that you find these updates helpful. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Enrollment Management staff or me. Again, Thank you for all you do for Mercy College and enrollment of our students. Your work is appreciated.
