April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). In addition to the Office of Compliance and Risk Management’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about sexual assault and sexual harassment, we have the following upcoming events for SAAM:

SafeColleges Scavenger Hunt: Last month, the Title IX on the 19th Newsletter highlighted the SafeColleges training library. The entire Mercy College Community is challenged to go on a “scavenger hunt” through the SafeColleges library to complete at least two trainings that focus on sexual misconduct. Faculty are also encouraged to use the available trainings as a compliment or extra credit to lecture material.

ERASE: The Title IX on the 19th email will feature the ERASE method to educate students about sexual harassment in the clinical setting.

Denim Day, April 28, 2021: Wear your denim and show that you believe survivors of sexual violence! The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim (https://www.denimdayinfo.org/why-denim).

Glass City Marathon Volunteers Needed

Submitted by Lori Edgeworth

The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon will be run in person this year on Sunday, April 25, 2021. The Marathon will look different this year with all the Covid precautions they are taking however there still will be water stops for the runners throughout the Marathon. Mercy College has agreed to handle the Water stop at Mile Marker 9 and 21 of the Race in Wildwood Park. It is the same stop that we have done the past couple of years!

I am in need of approximately 10 volunteers to assist with the water stop! We will not be pouring water into cups. We will be placing unopened water bottles on tables for the runners to grab. So it will be a contactless activity! We will be making sure the table is stocked for them and cheering them on!

The time will be approximately 7:30 a.m. until noon on Sunday, April 25.

If you are able to volunteer and assist – Please email lori.edgeworth@mercycollege.edu. Please feel free to bring your family members to volunteer as well!

I will then coordinate the volunteers and be in touch with more details.

Please let me know if you are available by Friday, April 9 so I can get everything set up!

Thanks so much!

Lori
