Faculty & Staff Newsletter

April 1, 2019

Special Update from the Office of Compliance, Risk Management, and Title IX

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and there will be a variety of activities and events around campus in both Toledo and Youngstown throughout the month for faculty, staff, and students to help remind us that "It's On Us" to help prevent sexual violence. The College partners with local rape crisis centers in both locations to service our respective college communities. In Toledo, our partnership is with the Hope Center at the YWCA, which provides resources for faculty and staff as well as confidential advocacy for students. Please "meet" Emily Boyk from the Hope Center, who wants you to know the following: "I serve as the On-Campus Advocate at Mercy College. As the outreach advocate specifically focused on working with the campus population, an important part of my job is implementing educational programming for students, faculty, and staff on topics related to sexual violence. I would love to come to your class or event to present on a topic related to sexual violence. You can reach out to me at any time at eboyk@ywcanwo.org or 567-395-5610 to discuss setting up programming."

Emily will be on campus presenting a Self-Care Station on April 3 in the Student Lounge on 3rd floor Jefferson. Please stop by and introduce yourself, and encourage your students to do so as well Other events and activities throughout the month include:

  • April 2- wear teal - If you don't have anything teal, stop by the Student Lounge and get a ribbon.
  • April 9 and 10 - the Clothesline Project
  • April 11 - Sammies for SAAM (sandwiches in the Student Lounge)
  • April 15 - Community Health Worker Student Info Table, 3rd floor Student Lounge
  • April 24 - Denim Day

In Youngstown, students will have the opportunity to take the Campus Climate Survey, gather SAAM resources, and have refreshments on April 1, 4, and 5. Dawn Powell from the Rape Crisis Center is always available to the Youngstown faculty, staff, and students. She can be reached at dpowell@compassfamily.org or 330-782-3936.
