The Recognition of Excellence is an opportunity for our Mercy College of Ohio community to celebrate the successes and recognize the excellent work of our student, faculty, and staff members. All Mercy College of Ohio students, faculty, and staff are invited to nominate their peers and colleagues.

Innovative Teaching Award

This award is designed to create an ethos of innovation among the Mercy College faculty. It inspires innovative, effective pedagogy, encourages teaching excellence, and creates a culture of continuous improvement among the teaching faculty.

  • Those eligible for nomination include any teaching faculty member holding the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor with a minimum of two years of service to Mercy College of Ohio.
  • The award includes additional funding above the amount provided to the general faculty for expenses to attend a conference or present their innovative pedagogy as approved by the Vice-President of Academic Affairs. The recipient of this award will be responsible for a presentation on Faculty Development Day. This workshop will be based on the technique/practice for which the recipient was recognized.
  • Faculty are only eligible every three years to receive this award. One faculty award per year maximum.
  • After reviewing all nominations, the selection committee will determine up to two finalists who will be asked to provide a nomination packet of no more than 6 pages providing the following information:
    • A cover letter providing an explanation of the innovative practice, activity or course. This explanation must specifically and clearly address how the practice, activity, or course under review is innovative. This letter must also articulate how this practice reflects an ethos of innovative, creative and excellent teaching.
    • For the purposes of this award, innovative is broadly defined and indicates the integration of new or alternative teaching methods or practices, technology, or concepts into a course or program of study. A single classroom assignment may be innovative, as well as an entire course.
    • The term “innovative” must be applied to a specific activity or concept informing a course. Specific evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of the innovation in forwarding the learning objectives of the course in which the innovative technique is practiced.
    • Evidence of teaching effectiveness may come in the form of course evaluations, student reflections on the assignment, activity or concept, or other assessment data.
  • Faculty are only eligible every three years to receive this award. One faculty award per year maximum.
