The Recognition of Excellence is an opportunity for our Mercy College of Ohio community to celebrate the successes and recognize the excellent work of our student, faculty, and staff members. All Mercy College of Ohio students, faculty, and staff are invited to nominate their peers and colleagues.

Faculty Scholarship/Research Award

This award is designed to encourage, acknowledge, and reward academic study or achievement that contributes to the body of knowledge and learning in a specific discipline or the academy at-large.

  • Those eligible for nomination include full-time faculty members with a minimum of 4 years of teaching at Mercy College of Ohio.
  • The award includes a plaque and additional funding above the amount provided to the general faculty for expenses to attend a conference or present their research as approved by the Vice-President of Academic Affairs. The recipient of this award will be responsible for a presentation on Faculty Development Day that will help that will assist faculty in all areas engage in scholarship/research in their discipline or the academy.
  • Faculty are only eligible every three years to receive this award. One faculty award per year maximum.
  • Any faculty member or member of Academic Council may submit a nomination.
  • The chair of the selection committee will send a notice to nominees with a time to respond with required documentation including:
    • A summary of their significant scholarly research and creative activities. Examples may include, but are not limited to: creation of new knowledge or new products; creation of professional books, chapters, or monographs; research or creative work aimed at the generation of new knowledge or materials; peer-reviewed publications; etc.
    • A one-page synopsis of the most meaningful item of scholarship or research conducted by the nominee
    • A curriculum vitae enumerating the nominee’s cumulative scholarly and research achievements
    • Relevant external review documents
  • The criteria for selection concern the quality and significance of the nominee’s scholarly endeavors or research and include:
    • Significance within the respective academic discipline.
    • Regional, national, and international importance.
    • Overall contribution to knowledge, culture, or professional practice.
    • Applicability and service to the College or Mercy Health community (e.g., recognition resulting from work), professional organizations, and the surrounding local communities.
  • Faculty are only eligible every three years to receive this award. One faculty award per year maximum.
